And today i rocked on with my socks on.
I dropped my girlfriend off at her job at a pizza place for her late shift and went over to my best friend neil's house. I didn't tell my girlfriend, she'd get upset that i was having a good time while she wasn't. Anyways i got there to jam.
I play guitar by the way, horribly i might add. I can't read music and have been (attempting) teaching myself for the past 6 years. I'm so bad.
Neil on the other hand was known as the most musically inclined in my school. He was drum major. So he conducted the marching band. Being his friend, he appointed me "Drum Minor", my job was to carry the podium that he stood on to conduct. BUT he let me conduct one time! it was sweet! he also let me play the drums sometimes, which i loved but was aweful at.
so i'm there with his girlfriend Lorianne whose pretty cool and all of our friend Jon Dick. haha whenever i'm down i think of Jon Dick and smile. because i'm immature probably. Well most of our playing was impromptu, He drummed, I played guitar and sang (also horribly). My original intent was to record it so i could let you all listen to it on the interweb, but it wasn't quite good enough, plus i got a bad pimple this morning and i need a shave. Maybe next week if i do it again.
The three highlights of what we played were as follows
Well we played four songs by My Chemical Romance (all from the amazing album The Black Parade), one of my all time favorite bands, and the ending of their song "The End" has the SWEET instantaneous transition into the next track "Dead!" and me and neil NAILED it, haha neil nailed it. I was looking at him as we got near it thinking is he gonna do it or will i just look done, so i decided to look dumb and he did too it was nice. we tried four times to replicate it and we couldn't.
Then we started playing the stereotypical teen punk song, Blink 182 - Dammit, haha the biggest song when i was in 8th grade. its so angsty and simple. and when they play it live sometimes they sing TLC's No Scrubs halfway through, which we did. That was sweet.
And the best was this...
All my friends make fun of me for liking Fall Out Boy, but i learned how to play guitar from their songs so i really like them.
We played "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me", and the part of that song right before the chorus is when all the instruments stop and he sings "She said "Why don't you just drop dead?" It's a focus of the song for me. and when we did it, all four of us in the basement all sang it and it was sweet.
So that was my day and I'm happy about it.
Here's live versions of all 3 songs, i only get live versions because they're the only ones that can be embedded.
My Chemical Romance - Dead!
Blink 182 - Dammit (Growing Up)
Fall Out Boy - A little less sixteen candles a little more touch me

Sounds like a great time was had by all. There's nothing wrong with having a hang-out-with-the-guys night. Though I fear your music may be too young for me(lol), I'd love to hear you guys play sometime.
ReplyDeletehaha music doens't have an age, thats why The Monkees still sound so good.
